Luuwit View is an amazing inclusive playground, with a stunning view of Mt St Helen (Luuwit is an Indigenous word for Mt St Helen). Pearl Kids and families, join us for a few hours of fun at Playdate PDX! Playdate PDX is a three floor indoor play space with an interactive dance floor and a ball cannon! To say your kiddos will have fun is the understatement of the year. Playdate PDX is located in the Slabtown neighborhood at 1434 NW 17th Ave. We’ll meet there at 1pm and hang for as long as the kiddos are having fun. We can’t wait to see you there!

Hello Pearl families! Join us for a park play date at Luuwit View Park on Aug 20th from 2-5pm. Luuwit View Park features a soccer field and basketball court, accessible play and picnic areas, parking, community gardens, a fenced off-leash dog area, and foot and bike paths with expansive views – including an amazing view of Luuwit (the Native American name for the iconic Mt. St. Helens). We hope to see you all there for an afternoon of fun!
Grab your potato salad and cucumber sandwiches, we’re having a picnic! Join us in Jamison Square following the service on July 31st for a community picnic. We’ll be gathering near the fountains to enjoy the lovely summer midday together, so please bring your own lunch and join us! No more pencils, no more books! We’re celebrating a year of hard work and the dawn of summer for Pearl’s kids with a rooftop popsicle party! It has been so precious to see how each of the sweet Pearl babies have changed so much over the past year. They really do grow up so fast!

There are few things I enjoy more than a good bedtime story. I love reading and listening to them, and to do so with others is even better! For that reason, I’ll be hosting an all Pearl Families story night on Thursday, May 27th at 7pm.
The story that I’ll be sharing is one of my favorites. It’s called “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse” by Charlie Mackesy.
This is truly a story for all ages, with characters that are relatable in both silly and serious ways. Your children will want to hear it again and again, even as they grow into adults.

Not all children are ready to give something up for the season of Lent or to commit to doing something in service to others. However, ALL children are capable of communing with God in prayer. For this special Ash Wednesday service, ALL Pearl Kids and Youth are invited to join Pastor Mindy in an activity where each of us will compose our very own Lenten Breath Prayer. Breath Prayer is an ancient contemplative prayer practice that is intended to nourish awareness that God is as near as the very next breath that you take. Pastor Mindy has taught and facilitated this practice with children and adults of all ages. The work of forming the prayer is very simple. However, the impact on the heart and soul can be profound. Once each child has composed their own prayer it can be prayed again and again by memory—with perhaps a bit of guidance from parents and caregivers for the little ones.
Parents of our younger children are encouraged to join along. Your participation alongside your child will help them to stay present and get the most out of the activity. Having markers, crayons, colored pens and paper on hand will also be helpful.

These are moments that we want to celebrate and share with our friends, family and church community. With current statistics suggesting that the average American over the age of 14 engages with screens upwards of 10 hours a day, the topic of our growing dependence on technology applies to nearly everyone. While the effects differ at each point of development, real changes to the brain, relationships, and personal lives are well documented.
This topic has significant relevance for parents, caregivers of children and educators especially now as so much of what we and our children do on a daily basis involves being connected to some kind of digital device.
On Wednesday, October 28th from 7-8:30pm you are invited to hear from Doreen Dodgen Magee, an expert on this subject, who will share with us about the implications of this hyper digital world we are living in and encourage us with how we can healthily moderate our use of technology. Doreen is an award winning author, speaker and psychologist with 28 years of experience working in private practice with individuals and groups. She is a reluctant “geek,” spending inordinate amounts of time interacting with scholarly research, tech trends, and pop culture around the topic of technology and how the digital domain is shaping us. Far from being technology phobic or averse, she works to bring a balanced view of the new realities working to inspire people to become moderate and well informed (not abstinent) in their tech engagement. Doreen is also the author of the Nautilus award winning book Deviced! balancing life and technology in a digital world. A copy of this book will be gifted to the first 5 people who RSVP for the event!

Welcoming a new season!
Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I associate it with beginning a new school year and the start of my favorite holiday season of Advent which speaks to new light and life being born into the world through Jesus. Fall is also a season where things come to an end. Days shorten, trees start to turn brown and lose their leaves, and summer vacation time concludes.
This is a transitional time, with the seasons changing and our lives changing as well. To mark the changing season grown ups and all kids are invited to join Pastor Mindy for a time to connect, say hello to friends, share what you did this summer, what you are looking forward to this fall, and also to hear a bit more about what Pearl kids and youth will be doing in the year to come.
